Kiddi Caru Redhill Applauds Star Sunflower Grower
Green fingered little ones at Kiddi Caru’s Redhill day nursery took part in the company’s annual sunflower growing competition, with one of them scooping top prize with a sunflower measuring a whopping 297cm.
Ava received one of 300 sunflower growing packs sent out by Kiddi Caru in May, which contained seeds, a tape measure and height chart diary. The children took their packs home and planted the seeds in their gardens, so that their families could also join in looking after them and watching them grow.
At just under three metres Ava’s sunflower beat last year’s record of 289cm. As well as receiving a cuddly toy of Kiddi Caru’s mascot Roo, Ava won a children’s gardening set.
Helen Atkin, Nursery Manager, said: “The sunflower growing competition is popular with the children and their families as it’s something that can do together at home and the children also learn about what sunflowers, and other plants and flowers, need to grow. There’s always a lot of discussion at the nursery too about how tall everyone’s sunflower has grown so far. Ava’s sunflower is very impressive, to have beaten last year’s record by eight centimetres is quite an achievement!”
