Kiddi Caru Caldecotte Get Crafty
To develop the toddlers gross motor skills the staff set up a large scale painting activity with the use of lanterns. By hanging lanterns from the ceiling and giving the children a chance to use large paint brushes they were able to paint standing up and chase the lanterns as they swung from the ceiling, creating and putting their own individual marks onto the lanterns. By setting up a large scale activity like this, it helps to develop the children’s large body muscles that will help with kicking, running and jumping, promoting the children’s posture, balance and coordination.
The little ones have also been exploring lots of craft materials and natural resources to create their very own group collage. The children were able to pick their own resources to add onto the collage, the children had a variety of different textures to add to their collage, developing their sensory touch and creativity.
To expand the children's love of sensory play they have been painting onto spaghetti, exploring the different texture and the feel of spaghetti and paint together. The children were able to use the paint brushes to create different marks onto the pasta observing the way the paint went onto the strands. By taking part in sensory play and exploring the textures of the spaghetti and the paint this helps to build nerve connections within the developing brain helping the children to grow and complete more complex learning tasks.
