A Week Of Gruffalo Fun At Kiddi Caru Basingstoke
The children and staff at Basingstoke’s Kiddi Caru day nursery ventured into the deep dark wood to celebrate one of their favourite books – The Gruffalo – for the company’s 2018 book week initiative.
Written by Julia Donaldson and first published in 1999, The Gruffalo tells the tale of a mouse taking a walk through a forest where he meets a fox, an owl, a snake and finally the Gruffalo. During the week long celebrations the children turned their home corners into Gruffalo dens and made the different characters from the book using arts and crafts materials. They made masks and went on Gruffalo hunts around the nursery. There were also food tastings, with the children making foods they thought the Gruffalo might like to eat.
Helen Kinch, Nursery Manager, said: “The Gruffalo is one of the children’s favourite books. As well as the Gruffalo himself they love the mouse character, who manages to make it out of the forest despite meeting a few scary animals along the way thanks to his quick thinking. The story really captures the children’s imaginations and it was lovely to have a whole week dedicated to bringing it to life for them.
