Kiddi Caru Writtle Role Play Goldilocks and the Three Bears

The children have been role playing “Goldilocks and the three bears”, drawing on their interests, we have been participating in lots of bear themed activities and also read the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We discussed with the children;

  • why we should never go into a strangers house
  • why we shouldn’t take things that do not belong to us
  • The similarities between the bears and Goldilocks
  • and mathematical language such as sizes.

The children were asked to find three sticks and to sort them into sizes according to their length and then how they felt in weight. The children decided to make a bear den using different sized pieces of wood they found in the forest school area and worked together to carry tree logs and larger sticks. The children throughout all the different activities were learning how to use different tools safely, how to problem solve and how to work together. This week the children have also had the chance to use a knife to whittle wood into their own unique bear. The children listened very well to the safety instructions and could remember the seven rules of forest school with ease. The activities enabled the children to enjoy the responsibility of carrying out small tasks, understand the use of objects and use one handed tools and equipment. The children have handled tools, objects and materials safely when tackling new challenges and consider and manage risks.
