Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries Awarded Eco-Schools Green Flag

Five Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries and Preschools, across Milton Keynes, Bedford, Queniborough, Loughborough and Stoneygate, have recently been awarded a Green Flag accreditation in partnership with the Eco-Schools charity.

Eco-Schools sets out to educate young people on environmental concerns and to engage the next generation to take eco-friendly action. Their programme consists of a simple, seven step framework that encourages young individuals to drive change and improve environmental awareness in their school or nursery. Once this programme has been completed, a school or nursery can apply for an Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation, which recognises, rewards and celebrates the environmental achievements of these young people.

These Kiddi Caru nurseries which are part of the Grandir UK group, have spent the past few weeks putting in place a child led Eco-Committee and have held regular meetings where children can discuss what actions they would like to implement within their nursery to ensure the planet is cared for, long term.

The children at Walnut Tree (Milton Keynes) have taken it upon themselves to explain the importance of the Eco-Schools programme to their parents and carers so they can receive the same level of support and action at home as well as in the nursery. Kiddi Caru Day Nursery (Bedford) have evaluated where they are succeeding and falling behind in environmental areas. The children have put their efforts towards tackling the sections that require the most improvement. The young individuals at The Laurels Nursery School & Preschool (Queniborough) have participated in the Great Big School Clean organised by Eco-Schools to contribute to the Keep Britain Tidy programme. Charnwood Day Nursery (Loughborough) have actioned an electricity saving campaign where children are encouraging attendees, employees and visitors to conserve energy in rooms that are not in use. The children at the Little Acorns Nursery (Stoneygate) have created a garden on the nursery grounds to promote and sustain wildlife. This has prompted discussions about the importance of protecting nature.

Caron Moseley, Sales and Marketing Director for Grandir UK, comments “We are committed to being corporate and socially responsible. Across our nurseries we encourage our children to be mindful and caring towards the world they live in and to become environmentally aware and responsible influencers. As part of our Education Strategy, our entire network is committed to achieving and retaining the Eco School Green Flag Award with full involvement of our people, children and families.”

The Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation aligns with Kiddi Caru’s bespoke educational programme: Foundations for The Future. One key focus in this programme is Environmentally Aware & Responsible. Kiddi Caru is aiming to increase the number of Green Flag accreditations across their 50 nurseries established in the UK.
