In recent weeks, we took the time to speak to Caroline Wescott, one of our dedicated long serving Bank Staff members at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Taunton and asked her a few questions about early years and what it’s like working as a Bank Staff member in our nursery. Read on to hear Caroline’s story.
“Hi my name is Caroline Wesott, I’m nearly 57 and I’ve been married to my husband for 38 years and I have three amazing children, a daughter and five grandchildren. We also have a motorhome which we regularly use.”
“I’ve had a variety of jobs over the years, working in schools, shops and as a cleaner. Often fitting in my jobs around a young family. I also spent 6 years working in care, looking after an elderly couple and after they passed away, I felt I needed a complete change of direction. I saw the advert for unqualified Bank Staff and felt it would be a refreshing change to be part of young and new lives.”
“I began my career with Kiddi Caru Taunton over eleven and a half years ago (where did that time go!). As a bank member of staff, I can choose what days/hours I work each week. When I accepted the job, I was also looking after my elderly mother, who had many medical issues and needed extra care. By having a Bank Staff job role, it meant I was able to fit her appointments around work and be there for her. Sadly, my mother died in 2011 but I continued working at Kiddi Caru Taunton within a Bank role as my husband is self employed and it gives me flexibility to fit in with his schedule.”
“I love the fact that being Bank means you will never know which age group of children or staff members you will be working with each day. I may begin my day with the babies and end it in preschool room. It is a privilege to comfort a baby on their first day at nursery and then watch them grow into a confident child who is ready to take their next step into school life.”
Dedicated, Inspirational, Caring, Passionate and Supportive.
“When I leave nursery at the end of a good day (and believe me, not all days are good days) I feel like I have made a difference. I may have comforted a sad child on their first day or engaged a group of children with a story. Sometimes it’s the small things that can really make all the difference”
“The flexibility of my role means I can spend more time looking after my grandchildren. Three of my grandchildren are at school so I am able to take time off during school holidays or when it suits me so we can plan holidays and days out together.”
“We are a friendly, hard-working bunch at Kiddi Caru. No two days are ever the same and you can spontaneously burst into song anytime, and no one will ever bat an eyelid!”
“The one thing we pride ourselves on is how we work as a team. Someone will always be there to encourage and support you, our strength is how we pull together during the difficult times.”
We are thankful to each of our nursery teams for their care, support, and hard work every day. You could be a part of an environment like this, follow the links below to find out more:
