With love on Father’s Day
Messy hands, sticky fingers, hand prints everywhere – not the dirty
kind, the loving kind.
Henry Stovell and Eleanor Davies along with the other children at the Kiddi
Caru Day Nursery in Church Langley, Harlow made casts of their hands using
salt dough which were then filled with Plaster of Paris. Once set, the toddlers
painted them bright colours as a gift for Father’s Day.
Children learn about fire safety
Children
from the pre-school rooms at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Church Langley, Harlow
had a visit from the Harlow Fire Brigade to help them understand how to stay
safe in the event of a fire.
Fire Brigades across the UK are committed to bringing fire safety directly to everyone especially those people in the most vulnerable groups. Harlow Fire Brigade explained to the children who they needed to call in the event of a fire and emphasised the dangers that fire can cause. The visit helped the children as they have been working on a topic about ‘people who help us’, it was valuable to their learning and extended their knowledge.
Before the Fire Brigade left the children were allowed to spray water from the hoses and dress Tanya Baldry (Nursery Nurse) up as a fire person which the children found hilarious. As the Fire Brigade pulled out of the Kiddi Caru car park the driver sounded the alarm which made the children’s day.
We would like to say a big thank you to the Harlow Fire Brigade for sparing the time to come and visit the nursery.
Children Graduate at Day Nursery
Pre-schoolers at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Harlow said farewell in style with a graduation ceremony.
Staff at the nursery organised a special send off for those starting primary school in September. The children made their own graduation hats and on the day the staff presented them with a special certificate and a book of photos and pictures from their time at the nursery. After the graduation the children had lots of fun playing and dancing.
Nursery Manager, Kelly Walker-Reid comments; ‘It was a sad graduation in a way as the children have been with us since the nursery opened back in 2004 but on the up side a lot of the children will be attending the local primary school next door to the nursery so we will still see the children from time to time.’
Stranger Danger
Children
at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Church Langley, Harlow had a visit from the
local Police to teach them about Stranger Danger.
Stranger Danger is a simple way of explaining to the children the dangers of strangers and what to do if they come across someone they do not know. The advice the children were given is vital to staying safe, i.e. never go with a stranger, get in to a car or talk to any one they do not know.
The children already had an awareness of stranger danger but being told by the Police reinforced the importance of keeping safe and how to get help. It also helped the children as they have been working on a topic about ‘people who help us’, it was valuable to their learning and extended their knowledge.
We would like to say a big thank you to the Harlow Police for sparing the time to come and visit the nursery.

Making Chatter Matter
As part of ‘Make Chatter Matter Week’, on Wednesday 8th February 2006 the children at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Church Langley, Harlow raised over £1,150 by taking part in the Chatterbox Challenge to help raise funds for the ‘I Can’ charity who help children with language and communication difficulties.
As part of the Chatterbox Challenge the children had to learn a song themed around the sea, helping them develop their communication skills by practising and performing the song. Children from Kiddi Caru, aged between 2 and 3 years of age performed ‘Row, Row the boat’ and ‘1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the Sharks are in the sea’, dressed in pirate hats which they made the previous week.
Says Kelly Walker-Reid, Nursery Manager, ‘We took part in
the Chatterbox challenge last year and felt that it was important
to take up the challenge again this year, giving our support to
the ‘I Can’ Charity. This year’s challenge was
organised by Clare Muggleton and Heather Carter, both Nursery Nurses,
who came up with different and exciting ways for the children to
take part; and even though it was a very cold day, all the children
had a great time!’
£1,000 was kindly donated by St James’s Place Foundation based in Cirencester who regularly contribute to children’s charities.

Toddle waddle at local day nursery
Toddlers from Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Church Langley, Harlow put their best feet forward for the Barnardo’s Big Toddle. Now in its tenth year, the Toddle continues to be the biggest, brightest and best event for under 5’s, with thousands of children taking part in organised Toddles across the UK.
The tots dressed as ducklings waddled around the garden to complete the half-mile course. We painted the children’s noses orange and the wings were made out of the children’s hand prints which were then stuck on to the wing templates. The children aged between 1 and 2 years waddled through hoops and tunnels making the Big Toddle exciting and fun’.
Not only did all the children and staff at Kiddi Caru have a fun packed day but they managed to raise £350 for the Barnardo’s charity.
