Child Tax Credit

Nine out of ten families are eligible for Child Tax Credit!

If you are responsible for a child or young person who normally lives with you, you will probably be eligible to receive payments called Child Tax Credits.

You may receive Child Tax Credits if you are responsible for at least one child under 16.
Tax credits are based on your household circumstances, when you contact the HM Revenues & Customs you will need the following information ready:

  • Your income;
  • Your parent’s or civil partner’s income (if you have one); and
  • The children in your family

You can claim Child Tax Credit if your income is not more than £68,175 a year (up to £66,350 if your have a child under one). The amount you can receive depends on various factors.
Child Tax Credit will be paid in addition to Child Benefit. The table below provides a guide to how much you would have received for the tax year 2005-2006 (that is, 6 April 2005 to 5 April 2006). If you qualify for Working Tax Credit aswell, the figures will be different.

If your child is under one year old or has a disability, then the amount you can receive will be higher.
